Note You will be doing the second activity tomorrow, following the same steps. As always, if you have any questions, send me a message through GroupMe or e-mail me at [email protected]. Learning Target I can obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the structure and properties of matter by building an atom and exploring its properties through a PhET interactive lab. (S8P1) Learning Activity Today is FRIDAY FUN-DAY! ! As a Friday Fun-Day activity, you will visit the PhET's 'Build an Atom' simulation to build atoms, isotopes, and ions. You will explore the parts of an atom: nucleus, protons, neutrons, electrons, atomic mass and identify atoms from the periodic table. During your exploration, you will complete the 'Build an Atom Worksheet' and upload it to Forms. Once you have completed the 'Build an Atom Worksheet,' upload it to Forms using the link below: As always, if you have any questions, send me a message through GroupMe or e-mail me at [email protected].

I can communicate information about the concept of matter through a CFA. (S8P1) Learning Activity If you have not turned in two choice board activities, complete and submit them BEFORE proceeding! Once you have completed and submitted your required items from the choice board, then login to USA TestPrep and take the S8P1. Matter CFA. As always, if you have any questions, send me a message through GroupMe or e-mail me at [email protected]. Learning Target
I can communicate information about the concept of matter through a second choice board activity. (S8P1) Learning Activity Today, you will complete the second activity on the "Matter Differentiated Review Activity" board. To complete the activity you will need to complete the following steps:

As we look to begin our End-of-Year Review Activities, it is fascinating to note that today, in 1936, the first known leukemia patient was treated using a medical radioactive isotope of sodium injected intravenously. If you recall from our first unit, Properties of Matter, isotopes are atoms with the same number of protons but different numbers of neutrons. The medical radioisotopes are produced through natural decay of atoms and are used to diagnose and treat diseases, such as cancers and hyperthyroidism.
Today you will be tasked with recalling not only about isotopes, atoms, protons, and neutrons, but much of the knowledge you have gathered throughout this school year. Learning Target I can communicate information about the concepts of matter, energy, force and motion, electricity and magnetism, and waves through a USA TestPrep assessment. Learning Activity Students will login to USA TestPrep and take the "Cumulative Course Test" on USA TestPrep. Please do your best on this test as it will determine future remediation and enrichment activities throughout the remainder of the semester. As always, if you have any questions, send me a message through GroupMe or e-mail me at [email protected]. Learning Target I can illustrate practical applications of the electromagnetic spectrum through a CFA (common formative assessment) Learning Activity We have accomplished so much this week! We have explored the Electromagnetic Spectrum and it's many practical applications, while adjusting to a new way of learning. As we wrap up the week, we will be taking an assessment to check how well we have been able to learn this week. Go to USA TestPrep and take the assessment "S8P4c Practical Application of EM Spectrum CFA." You will have 3 attempts to improve your score. Additionally, I have extended the due dates to all assignments to Sunday, March 22nd to give everyone a little extra needed time. Below are some OPTIONAL videos that can be a helpful review on the Electromagnetic Spectrum. As always, if you have any questions, send me a message through GroupMe or e-mail me at [email protected]. What is the Electromagnetic Spectrum? The Electromagnetic SpectrumUses of EM WavesBefore we get to today's lesson, I want to thank everyone that has been working on the assignments and participating in the Digital Learning Days. I know at times we have come across some hiccups, such as apps not wanting to work, traffic jams from overloading the system, or just the simpler issues like "I don't get any of this!" Together, we have worked through the kinks and are finding success in this new virtual learning world. Again, thank you!
Learning Target I can illustrate practical applications of the electromagnetic spectrum by completing Performance Tasks on USA TestPrep Learning Activity This week you have been exploring the Electromagnetic (EM) Spectrum and devising modification, enhancement, or improvements of existing applications of the EM spectrum. For today, you will complete an assignment in USA TestPrep titled "Applications of EM Spectrum." In this assignment you will work on watching a few videos, answer a some questions, and completing a couple of Performance Task. Once you have completed the USA TestPrep, take the time to complete any of the early assignments, if you have not done so. You will have a Common Formative Assessment (CFA) for tomorrow. As always, if you have any questions, send me a message through GroupMe or e-mail me at [email protected]. Thank you for everyone who attempted yesterday's learning activity. It seems so many of us were attempting to use Padlet at once that we caused a "traffic jam" and were unable to access the page. As an alternative, I have created a Forms document so that you can submit your ideas on how you could improve or modify a product or device that uses Electromagnetic waves. The document has additional information to help clarify expectations of the assignment. The link for the forms can be found after today's activities. Additionally many of you had questions regarding the Electromagnetic Spectrum. To help strengthen your understanding of the EM Spectrum today's activity will allow you to explore an infographic that will provide you with information on the different sections of the EM Spectrum. Learning Target I can construct an explanation using data to illustrate the relationship between the electromagnetic spectrum and energy by navigating through an infographic that provides data regarding the different sections of the electromagnetic spectrum and providing a description of my findings. Learning Activity Recall that light, as in the light that our eyes detect, is an example of a type of electromagnetic wave. In actuality, we have learned that there are many types of these electromagnetic waves. In this activity you will gain more familiarity with the different types of electromagnetic waves, their characteristics and their relationship with energy. Today you will be visiting The Physics Classroom and using Schoology to download and submit your assignment. After downloading Scavenger Hunt: Getting to Know the Electromagetic Spectrum document, you are to navigate through the EM Spectrum Infographic at The Physics Classroom. Once you arrive at the page, launch the Interactive and size it to your liking by tapping the expansion arrow (bottom right) or the full screen mode icon (top right). Navigate past the first two screens until you come to the "Home Screen" with the sections of the infographic labeled with a letter. Tap a letter to zoom in on that section. Use the magnifying glass in the navigation panel (bottom) to zoom in further. Use the RIGHT, LEFT, UP, DOWN arrows to navigate the entire infographic. For each row of the table on the Scavenger Hunt: Getting to Know the Electromagetic Spectrum document, you need to navigate through the infographic to find the requested items. For each find, identify the section of the infographic (listed at top of screen) where the item was found and identify the item and describe the science of how it works. As always, if you have any questions, send me a message through GroupMe or e-mail me at [email protected].
